ecu.20A
The ecu.20A is designed to be installed “in-line”, to manage one single-phase electrical load or circuit. It uses appropriately sized, UL rated IEC cables to connect into the electrical circuit powering the load. The IEC cables can be used for a simple “plug and play” installation for loads that are powered by a “plug cord” such as auxiliary lighting, small air-conditioners, large fans and fountain pumps. For hard-wired circuits such as lighting circuits, the plugs from the IEC cables can be removed and the unit can be directly connected into the circuit at a junction box. The unit is housed in a UL rated plastic case and contains a digital, monitoring, analysis and communication system. The pcb is powered by an on-board, UL listed DC transformer. Mounted on the pcb is a (UL rated) relay that interrupts the electrical circuit running through the unit and powering the attached load. The relay is activated by a command from the data network to turn the controlled load off. The relay is rated for 20A and the cables are rated appropriately. Note that the high amperage, high voltage load does not run through the circuit board and is restricted to the external, appropriately rated wiring.
The unit has an on-board FCC compliant radio to provide data via a wireless network and can also be paired wirelessly to other Akida hardware.
When the ECU is configured as a plug-in box with no cables it is called an e-PLUG. In this configuration it plugs into a standard electrical outlet with a 3-prong plug on one face. It has a female outlet on another face where a load can be plugged in. In the e-PLUG configuration it is only available with a 15A relay.
HOW THE ecu.20A WORKS
Overview
The product uses an internal current transformer (CT) to detect and monitor the current. The on board TARAS digital energy metering card is able to provide real-time data on more than fifty parameters for electricity. This data is then relayed using RF wireless frequency of 2.4GHz to a remote Energy Gateway processor in an EMP or a Control Server. When the on-board, UL listed relay receives the appropriate signal from the Energy Gateway Processor, it will open to turn the load off. The ecu.20, when integrated into a digital data network helps in understanding the cost of operating small electrical equipment/appliances and manage consumption to save on energy costs.
