Use existing low voltage controls: The ecu.PTAC is specifically designed for the hospitality market to be installed “in-line”, to monitor and manage one single-phase PTAC unit. It has appropriately sized power cords and the unit can be directly connected into the circuit powering the PTAC at the junction box (typically underneath the PTAC unit). The unit is housed in a UL rated plastic case and contains a digital, monitoring, analysis and communication system. The pcb is powered by an on-board, UL listed DC transformer. On the circuit board are two micro-relays that interrupt the thermostat control loop or front desk control loop that is typically available in PTAC units. The relay is activated by a command from the data network to open the control loop and turn the PTAC off. The relay is only rated for standard PTAC thermostat control loops (24VAC). Connectors are provided on the unit for wiring the relays into the control loops. Note that the high amperage, high voltage load does not run through the circuit board and is restricted to the external, appropriately rated wiring.

The unit has an on-board FCC compliant radio to provide data via a wireless network and can also be paired wirelessly to other Akida hardware.

The product uses an internal current transformer (CT) to detect and monitor the electricity in the power cable. The on board TARAS digital energy metering card is able to provide real-time data on more than fifty parameters for electricity. This data is then relayed using RF wireless frequency of 2.4GHz to a remote Energy Gateway processor in an EMP or a Control Server. When the on-board, micro- relays receive the appropriate signal from the Energy Gateway Processor, they will open to turn the load off. The ecu.PTAC, when integrated into a system such as innGAUGE will help in understanding of the cost of operating electrical in-room PTAC units in a hotel and help the user manage consumption to save on energy costs.
